Post Baccalaureate Special Education K-12 Certificate and Endorsement
Central Arizona College’s Post-Baccalaureate Special Education programs are designed for individuals who already hold a bachelor’s degree and are interested in earning K–12 special education teacher certification with the Arizona Department of Education. Through the Traditional pathway or the Teacher in Residence option, candidates prepare to support students with mild to moderate disabilities in K–12 special education classrooms.
Program Information
Central Arizona College’s Post-Baccalaureate Special Education Mild to Moderate program prepares candidates with a bachelor’s degree to become K-12 special education teachers through coursework, mentorship, and hands-on field experiences. The Special Education Educator Preparation Program (EPP) offers two pathways — Traditional (TRAD) and Teacher in Residence (TIR) to earn Mild to Moderate Disabilities K-12 certification.
The program includes 49–51 credit hours of coursework, including 12 weeks of student teaching.
TRAD candidates complete field experience in the final semester as a student teaching experience. TIR candidates complete a 2-credit hour (45 clock hour) field experience in addition to their contracted special education teaching position, with 12 weeks of student teaching to ensure a range of K-12 experiences.
TRAD and TIR candidates complete ESE344 Introduction to IEPs: Behavior, Transition Planning, and Field Experience, which includes 15 clock hours in a special education classroom.
