Student Projects
Biological/ Physical Sciences
DNA Christmas Tree
The project has been integrated into the BIO181, General Biology I, course to enhance students’ comprehension of DNA structures and the concept of homologous chromosomes. During this activity, students construct a DNA Christmas tree as a hands-on learning experience.
Plant Labeling Project
The project has been incorporated into the BIO182 General Biology II course to facilitate students’ understanding of ecosystems. This exploration goes beyond the human population and encompasses plants, animals, insects, and more within a community. Through the project, students also gain insights into the origin and uses of various plants, enriching their learning experience.

Ascend Fall 2024
ASCEND (Aerospace Scholarships to Challenge and Educate New Discoverers) is a program by the Arizona Space Grant Consortium designed to engage students from Central Arizona College (CAC), as well as high school, other community colleges, and universities, in the complete “design-build-fly-operate-analyze” cycle of a space mission.
In this program, our CAC students designed and built two payloads for high-altitude weather balloons that can soar over 100,000 feet. These payloads are equipped with instruments to measure various parameters as they ascend. This hands-on program is intended to complement classroom learning by immersing students in the full mission cycle.
CAC ASCEND is seeking science and engineering students who are passionate about designing spacecraft to conduct scientific measurements at the edge of space.
