CARES Act Funding

Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act

What is the CARES Act?

The CARES Act establishes and funds the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) and directs institutions of higher education to use funds received under the CARES Act to provide emergency financial aid grants to students for expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus.

Central Arizona College (CAC) must follow federal eligibility guidelines in the awarding of these funds.   Technology Expense Grant funds will automatically be awarded to all students who meet the federal requirements; there is no application process for these funds.

Eligibility requirements for Technology Expense Grant include, but not limited to:

– Students must meet the requirements for eligibility as stated in the application for federal financial aid via FAFSA.  This does not mean that they had to have been awarded aid; however, they do have to be eligible to apply (details listed below). (www.studentaid.gov/understand-aid)

– Students must have earned their high school diploma, GED or completed high school in an approved homeschool setting.

– Students must be citizens or eligible non-citizens with a valid Social Security number.

– Male students must have completed Selective Service registration. (www.studentaid.gov/understand-aid/)

– Students must have current Spring 2020 enrollment and have been attending course(s) with 3 or more credits at Central Arizona College as of March 13, 2020.

– Students must NOT be exclusively attending an online program as of March 13, 2020.

Please note: Students with enrollments occurring after Spring 2020 are not eligible for funding.  Additional emergency funding that had been available via application has been exhausted and is no longer available.
