Radiologic Technology, AAS

Radiologic Technology is a health care profession involving the use of ionizing radiation to generate diagnostic images in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. The degree is a two-year program (six sequential semesters including summers) that prepares students for entry-level positions as radiographers.

The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Radiologic Technology is a two-year program designed to prepare students for entry-level careers as radiographers. Through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on clinical experience, students develop the knowledge and skills necessary to provide high-quality patient care and diagnostic imaging services.

Selective Admissions Process

Admission to the Radiologic Technology Program is competitive and based on a point-based selection system.

There is no waiting list for the program. Each application cycle is evaluated independently, and admission is offered to the highest-ranking applicants.
To apply students must have:
  • Completed a minimum of 8 credits from the 23 required pre-requisite courses
    • Important: Students earn additional points by completing more prerequisite courses before applying. For this reason, applicants who have completed a larger portion of the required coursework are often more competitive.
  • Earn at least a 3.0 GPA in pre-requisite coursework
  • If accepted, students must complete all admission requirements before beginning the program in January
  • To be considered for admission, applicants must submit all required documentation
    • Applications are only accepted May 1st through June 30th each year.
    • Important: Incomplete applications will not be reviewed or awarded points. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure all required materials are received by the application deadline.

Clinical Education

Clinical training is an essential component of the program and provides students with real-world experience in healthcare settings.

Clinical Placement Information

  • Clinical assignments are located throughout the Valley.
  • Student should expect regular travel to clinical sites.
  • Students will not be assigned sites more than approximately 1.5 hours from their residence.
  • Every effort id made to place students at locations close to home, however, it is not guaranteed.

Graduate Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to:
  • Earn an Associates in Applied Science Degree in Radiologic Technology
  • Sit for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Certification Examination
  • Apply for Arizona licensure as a Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT)

General Education Requirements

Students are encouraged to contact advising@centralaz.edu for assistance selecting coursework that aligns with program requirements.
As stated previously, only 8 of the credits listed below are required to apply, however, the more that are completed the more competitive the student will be.

Written Communications (3 credits)

  • Choose one:
    • ENG101
    • ENG102

Oral Communications (3 credits)

  • COM100 or higher-level communication course
  • Note: This general education requirements may be waived by the Program Director for students who have already earned a bachelor’s degree.

Mathematics (3 credits)

  • MAT121 or higher level mathematics course
  • Intermediate Algebra or higher
  • Transfer Students: Students planning to transfer to Northern Arizona University or another Arizona public university should complete a MAT15+ level course or higher that meets Arizona General Education Curriculum (AGEC-A) requirements.

Arts and Humanities [HU] (3 credits)

Any approved Arts and Humanities course may be used.

  • Examples include: ART, HMC, LIT, MHL, PHI, THE, etc.
  • Transfer Recommendation: Students planning to transfer to Northern Arizona University should consider courses that also satisfy Cultural Awareness [C], Global Awareness [G], or Historical Awareness [H] requirements.

Social and Behavioral Sciences [SB] (3 credits)

Any approved Social and Behavioral Science course may be used.

  • Examples include: AGS, AJS, ASB, ECN, HIS, PSY, SOC, etc.
  • Transfer Recommendation: Students planning to transfer to Northern Arizona University should complete PSY101 – Introduction to Psychology.

Anatomy and Physiology

  • Required Courses:
    • BIO201- Anatomy and Physiology I (4 credits)
    • BIO202 – Anatomy and Physiology II (4 credits)
  • Pre-requisite Courses
    • BIO156- Human Anatomy and Physiology or BIO181 General Biology I
