Saguaro Speaks Fall 2025 Edition Showcases CAC Student Writing Excellence

By Maggie Almquist, Associate Director Public Relations and Marketing

The Central Arizona College Language and Literary Arts Division proudly announces the release of the Fall 2025 edition of Saguaro Speaks, CAC’s student literary magazine. Now available digitally on the college website, this fourth issue features outstanding works of fiction, poetry, and personal and academic essays by CAC students. The edition also includes the first-place poem from CAC’s 2025 Black History Month Poetry Contest.

Professor of English Tim Hohmann, who has served as editor for the 2024 and 2025 editions, collaborated with fellow CAC faculty to select works that capture the unique voices and experiences of the college’s student body.

“In my English 200 and 210 Creative Writing courses, students write about their experiences and cultures. Student prose and poetry published in Saguaro Speaks often starts out as responses to writing exercises, which are developed, revised and honed—employing the techniques of writing craft taught in the classes,” said Professor Hohmann. “It’s important to share this work with our college community—not only to recognize the individuals who put themselves out there creatively, but also to better understand the lived experiences of students in our classes.”

Saguaro Speaks was originally launched by former CAC Professor of English Keith Eubanks, who produced two print editions in 2006 and 2007. Today, the publication continues this proud tradition in digital form, celebrating student creativity and expression through an annual online edition.
