Groundbreaking Held at Central Arizona College Superstition Mountain Campus

Central Arizona College, Architekton and McCarthy Building Companies came together on Tues., September 26th for a groundbreaking to celebrate the Superstition Mountain Campus expansion that will include a new Allied Health building, Skilled Trades building and renovations to the existing C building on the campus.
Dr. Jackie Elliott, CAC President stated, “Both Architekton and McCarthy have partnered with the college on multiple projects. We appreciate their use of innovative design and construction technologies to help us maximize the budget, minimize delivery time and provide quality learning and working environment spaces for our students, faculty and staff.” She added, “The new state-of-the-art facilities will offer learning spaces that prepare students for the workforce and assist in providing economic growth for the region. The integrated classrooms, simulation centers and labs that will be housed in the new buildings will feature the latest in technology and will provide students with TRUE Learning opportunities.”
Dan Childers, Project Architect with Architekton explained the new 19,000 square foot Allied Health building will be home to programs such as Massage Therapy, Aesthetician, Nursing Assistance, Pharmacy, Phlebotomy, Medical Assistant, Radiology and Sonography. The 18,750 square foot Skilled Trades building will provide classrooms, labs, and exterior yards for Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Ceramics and Arts programming. The C Building, totaling 10,000 square feet, will undergo a remodel that will enhance more than half of the building, adding a computer lab, VR lab, an expanded E-Sports Lab, faculty and public safety offices. An existing café, student lounge, and student organization space will be left in place.
Amanda Isaacson, McCarthy Building Companies Senior Project Manager indicated the project, totaling $42.6 million, will enhance the college’s opportunities to provide services for students and residents of Apache Junction and Pinal County beginning in March 2024 when renovations will be completed in the C Building. It is projected the new Skilled Trades and Allied Health Buildings will be open for classes beginning in January 2025.
