George Young Memorial Scholarship Established by Central Arizona College Foundation

George Young was a four-time Olympian, competing in the 1960, 1964, 1968 and 1972 Summer Olympics. He won the bronze medal in the 3000-meter steeplechase during the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City.
Young was hired by Central Arizona College in 1971 as an instructor and the Cross Country/Track & Field coach. Two years later he was promoted to Athletic Director, the position he held until his retirement in 1996. He led his CAC Cross County team to a Junior College National Championship in 1988. Young passed away on November 8, 2022.
In remembrance of George Young, his wife Nancy has gifted a contribution to the CAC Foundation to establish the George Young Memorial Scholarship. Beginning this spring, A $500 scholarship will be awarded each academic year to a CAC cross country runner. To be eligible applicants must be a full-time student, Arizona resident and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher.

The Foundation was established in 1968 by a group of public-spirited Pinal County citizens. During its history, the Foundation has received financial gifts and real property from individuals and organizations. The overall purpose of the Foundation is to serve and support the College as a two-year institution of higher education with the primary role of providing student scholarships.
