Central Arizona College Welding Program Excels at Recently Hosted Event

The 2017 Welders Without Borders Welding Thunder© TM SM Welding Fabrication Team Invitational was hosted at Central Arizona College’s Signal Peak Campus on Friday, Nov. 3 and Saturday, Nov. 4.

More than 100 college and high school welding fabricators participated in the sixth annual event supported by the philanthropic organization, Welders Without Borders. Welding students competed in welding, bar-b-que cooking and for the first time this year, student teams fabricated a go-kart with time trials held the last day of competition.

Teams from Flagstaff High School, Mingus Union High School, Red Mountain High School, Skyline High School, Ray High School, Arizona Western College, Central Arizona College and Western Maricopa Education Center (MEC) began the fabrication of their go-kart on Friday at 9 a.m. and completed their project on Saturday just prior to the start of the time laps. Teams also were judged on their bar-b-que skills.
