Central Arizona College Students Receive Joyce Amburgey Memorial Scholarship
By Angela Askey, Executive Director Public Relations and Marketing
Earlier this year, the Central Arizona College Foundation received a sizeable donation to establish the Joyce Amburgey Memorial Scholarship.
This fall, four CAC students were selected as the first recipients of this scholarship. Brooke Packard, Addison Quenga, Arpita Sandhu and Makenna Vaughn were each awarded $2,000, helping to make educational opportunities at CAC more accessible.
Amburgey dropped out of high school at the age of 17 and was a stay-at-home mom, not only raising four children but also training and showing Tennessee Walking horses. At the age of 35, she faced life changes that led her back to education and entry into the workforce. Throughout her professional career she mentored and hired employees, encouraging them to “get a good education”.
The Joyce Amburgey Memorial Scholarship is open to Pinal County Residents or graduates of a Pinal County High School who intend to enter a medical field. Preference will be given to a first-generation college student or one who comes from a disadvantaged background.
Additional and continued support make scholarships available to students who need financial support. Tax-deductible contributions can be made online at www.centralaz.edu/give to support this and other CAC scholarships.
