Central Arizona College Partners with USI to Launch New Drone Training Programs

Central Arizona College (CAC) is excited to announce a new partnership with Unmanned Safety Institute (USI) to offer three robust training opportunities in drone aviation. These programs aim to equip students with FAA certification preparation, hands-on flight training, industry-recognized credentials, and are aligned with international ASTM standards that support career entry and advancement in unmanned aircraft systems (UAS).   This training program is offered as an ASTM Approved Training Provider through USI.

Offered through CAC’s Community & Continuing Education department, the programs include:

  • Commercial Remote Pilot 107 Prep Course (In-person at Maricopa Campus)
A classroom-based course that prepares students to pass the FAA Part 107 Unmanned Aircraft General (UAG) exam. Students gain foundational knowledge in aerodynamics, weather, airspace regulations, UAS components, and operational best practices.
  • Primary Remote Pilot Program (8 weeks, hybrid)
Combines online instruction and flight training to teach mission planning, safety protocols, RPAS systems, and FAA Part 107 exam readiness.
  • Advanced Remote Pilot Program (16 weeks, hybrid)
Builds on the primary program with Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations, airspace coordination, safety management, and advanced mission planning for specialized or leadership roles in the UAS field.

“These programs meet the urgent need for skilled remote pilots across industries like agriculture, construction, logistics, and public safety,” said EmmaLea Bittner, Community & Continuing Education Coordinator. “They’re designed for both newcomers to the drone space and professionals seeking to upgrade their credentials.”

“The partnership with Central Arizona College is a significant step in advancing workforce development for the UAS industry in the region,” said Josh Olds, President and CEO at USI. “We applaud the foresight and action their leadership team has taken to prepare individuals for the professional, safe operation of emerging technology throughout the southwest. As the demand for skilled professionals in unmanned technology continues to grow, initiatives like this ensure that students receive specialized training necessary to meet industry needs and drive economic growth.”

All programs lead to stackable, industry-recognized credentials backed by ASTM International and the FAA Safety Team. USI is a nationally recognized training provider whose curriculum aligns with evolving industry standards and employer expectations.

Enrollment is now open for all three programs. For details or to register, contact EmmaLea Bittner at EmmaLea.Bittner@centralaz.edu or 520-494-6447.
