Central Arizona College recently hosted the Annual Skilled Trades Expo and Career Fair along with the CAC Experience at its Signal Peak Campus. The event drew more than 350 students from throughout Pinal, Maricopa and Pima Counties.

This year’s Skilled Trades Expo featured 31 industry partners who set up interactive booths and demonstrations, offering students and community members a chance to connect directly with employers and professionals. Activities such as stick welding, plasma cutting and operating an excavator provided attendees with an opportunity to practice real-world job skills and offered a glimpse into exciting and in-demand career opportunities.

“Our Skilled Trades Expo was created five years ago to showcase the incredible opportunities Central Arizona College offers for those interested in learning a trade,” said Lexi Porterfield, Skilled Trades Coordinator and Recruiter. “We’re proud to work alongside our industry partners to ensure our programs stay aligned with current industry standards and provide our students with meaningful career pathways after college.” She added, “We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all participating partners for their continued dedication in supporting education and workforce development in Pinal County.”

To offer additional options, CAC’s Workforce and Economic Development department hosted their Annual Career Fair, featuring a Job Industry Showcase designed to connect students with local career opportunities. Approximately 150 students were able to meet with more than 20 employers, sparking meaningful conversations about career pathways available in Pinal County.

Erika Aguirre, Career Support Coordinator, explained, “In addition to the showcase, we offered mock interviews in both one-on-one and group formats. Volunteer interviewers included representatives from CAC’s Human Resources Department, Arizona@Work – WIOA, Lucrece Garrett, CAC Academic Success Coach, Dave Dunaway, General Manager at Arizona Water Company and Logen Kelly, Plant Manager and Lisa Ayala, Human Resources Manager with Cardinal Glass. Together, they provided 96 students with valuable feedback and real-world interview experience.”

Students who participated in the CAC Experience were able to tour the residence halls and get a glimpse into academic programming, including a recording studio demonstration, science lab exploration, and podcast creation.

The trifecta of events not only provided a learning experience for students but also a valuable networking opportunity for industry partners who were able to connect with future talent and strengthen relationships within the community.

Planning is already underway for the 6th Annual Skilled Trades Expo and Welding Demo Day scheduled for Fall 2026. CAC invites local businesses, organizations, and industry leaders to participate in next year’s event and help inspire the next generation of skilled trade professionals.
