Dr. Armineh Noravian, Professor of Engineering at Central Arizona College recently received a League Excellence Award from the League for Innovation.
For the past 12 years, The League for Innovation has been recognizing outstanding community college faculty, staff and leaders with Excellence Awards for their positive impacts in the lives of students and the communities they serve.
Dr. Noravian holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering from The University of Sydney, a master’s in engineering and in applied cultural anthropology from San Jose State University, and a Doctorate in Education from San Francisco State University, where she was the recipient of the Graduate Student Distinguished Achievement Award.
Since 2019, Dr. Noravian has been teaching engineering courses at CAC. She also taught electrical engineering courses at San Francisco State University. Throughout her career, she has held positions in industry, applied research and evaluation in education, and teaching. Prior to her work at CAC, she worked as an engineer and entrepreneur in Silicon Valley for more than 20 years. Additionally, for more than a decade, she has performed evaluations on a variety of grants, including NSF-ATE grants, Title V grants, and other educational programs at ASU. As a Noyce Fellow, she evaluated the impact of a STEM bridge program on California Teacher Pathway students.
When asked about her goals, Dr. Noravian stated, “My interest and focus is to help underrepresented students prepare for, have access to, and succeed in engineering. That is what brought me to CAC.” She added, “My goal is to provide my students with the best possible engineering education while also fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment, particularly for women and underrepresented students.”
Engineering courses taught by Dr. Noravian include Introduction to Engineering, Digital Design Fundamentals, and Circuits I. In addition to academic courses, she and Dr. Baldwin mentor students in applied hands-on projects outside of their regular courses. She believes these experiences promote confidence, disciplinary growth, and the kind of experience that can help students compete with others for internships or scholarships.
Dr. Noravian expressed her gratitude for the award but indicated that the greatest reward is seeing her students succeed and transfer to complete their bachelor’s degrees and beyond.
