Facilitating a Safe and Healthy Learning Environment

The Student Support Care Team (SSCT) was developed to provide resources for students, through proactive support measures to promote student well-being. The Student Support and Care Team also serves as the College’s Behavioral Intervention Team(BIT). This team responds to, assesses and supports students of concern. Through the combined efforts of the SSCT and the campus community, students will be able to utilize the available resources to care for themselves and others.

ROLE AND SCOPE

STUDENT SUPPORT AND CARE

  • Actively collects information regarding concerning behaviors.
  • Focuses on low risk behaviors, including referrals for mental health counseling, accessibility support, food and housing insecurity, etc.
  • Utilized as a student success and retention tool.

BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION AND THREAT ASSESSMENT

  • Utilize NABITA Risk Rubric Scale to assess student risk.
  • Collaborate to provide supportive measures to aid students at various crisis levels.
  • Seek to develop an understanding an plan to provide safety measures and supports for student wellbeing.

Student Support Forms

Academic Student Support Request Form (formerly Early Alert) is a process designed to increase retention and improve the success rate of students in the classroom. The program aims to support faculty and staff to identify any issues that may impact student persistence or achievement. The Academic Student Support Request is a tool by which any CAC employee may refer a student to various CAC student success services. If you encounter any issues when submitting a request, please email AcademicSuccess@centralaz.edu . Include the student’s name and ID along with course information (if applicable) and an explanation for the referral.

The College partners with local agencies to provide support for those students in need of mental health services. Arizona Complete Health offers 24 hour Crisis Line support and can be reached at 1-866-495-6735.  CAC is also partnered with Corazon Behavioral Health to provide counseling services  both in-person and virtually through the use of Zoom.

In the event of a complaint, the college encourages all students to first direct their complaints to the staff or administrator specifically involved. If the situation cannot be remedied at this level the student may contact the staff or administrator’s immediate supervisor.

Disruptive behavior is conduct that inhibits or limits anyone’s ability to fully access the educational benefits Central Arizona has to offer or behavior that directly violates the Student Code of Conduct. Disruptive behavior occurs inside or outside of a classroom setting. This form can be used to report general incidents, student misconduct, or student code violations.

All forms of student academic dishonesty, including but not limited to, cheating, inventing facts, or sources, causing others to be dishonest, or representing another’s words as one’s own.  Cheating. Cheating is defined as the use or attempted use of information, academic work, research, or property of another as one’s own. Cheating includes, but is not limited to, plagiarism, sharing knowledge during an examination, the unauthorized use of notes or other materials in an examination, or the willful disobedience of testing rules. If you have any questions about whether something constitutes academic dishonesty, please check with your instructor and/or your course syllabus. Both instructors and students may complete the form to report academic dishonesty.

Students who have a question or concern regarding their grade(s) or the course instructor should first speak to their instructor. For online students living outside Arizona, non-instructional complaints may be submitted at Student Complaint Form   below. Students may appeal SARA related complaints to the Arizona Community College Coordinating Council (AC4) . CAC is also a member of the Arizona SARA Council  , who can review unresolved non-instructional complaints for out of state students. Complaints may be submitted to  AZ SARA .  Students may also contact the SARA Portal Agency of their home state . Instructional complaints, such as grade grievances, should be resolved with faculty, and are not reviewed by AZ SARA.

Central Arizona College has policies relative to Title IX  that support nondiscrimination and prohibit discriminatory behavior including sexual harassment and sexual violence. Such policies apply to all educational programs, services, activities, and facilities.
