Admissions & Application Process
Bachelor of Science Elementary Education (120 credit hours in four years, including a minimum of 45 upper division credit hours)
Step 1: Apply and begin at the Associate Level
Students begin by applying to Central Arizona College and declaring the Associate of Arts in Elementary Education (AAEE) as the Program of Study to begin foundational coursework.
- The AAEE includes two years (60 credit hours) of lower division coursework and prepares students to enter the final two years (60 credit hours) of the BSEE.
- Candidates who have already earned the AAEE degree should apply as a student in the Associate of Arts in Liberal Studies.
- Admissions will process applications and review any official transcripts for courses taken at other institutions.
- Students should:
- Meet with an Academic Advisor.
- Apply for an IVP fingerprint clearance card. Students will apply for IVP fingerprint clearance card through AZ DPS.
Step 2: Attend an Informational Meeting with the Elementary Education Department or View the Recorded Session
Meeting Schedule
- Fall Cohort Entrance: Last Wednesday of January and February
- Spring Cohort Entrance: Last Wednesday of August and September
- Time: 4:00-5:00 p.m.
- Format: Microsoft Teams (Join Meeting)
Recorded Session
BSEE Informational Meeting (Recorded Session)
After attending or viewing the Informational Meeting presentation:
- Fill out the Microsoft Form (provided at the end of the video or live session) to receive a copy of the presentation and for guidance on the next steps.
- If you have not yet completed the AAEE program, you will work with an Academic Advisor to complete the foundational coursework for eligibility to advance to the upper division BSEE coursework.

Students who are near the completion of the Associate of Arts in Elementary Education will apply for graduation from the AAEE and will be eligible to move to Step 3.
Step 3: Submit Supplemental Application
After attending an Informational Meeting and applying for graduation from the Associate of Arts in Elementary Education (AAEE), candidates complete a supplemental application to communicate interest in the Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education degree program. This application will be provided after the candidate attends the informational meeting.
Supplemental Application Deadlines
- Fall admissions: Accepted between February 1 – April 15
- Spring admissions: Accepted between August 15 – October 30
Step 4: Interview and Program Review
BSEE Supplemental applications are scored with the BSEE Candidate Scoring Rubric.
Based on the application score, students will be invited to an Interview to discuss BSEE Expectations.
• Follow-Up documentation, including a Memorandum of Understanding and program pre-assessment will be provided.

Step 5: Formal Admission to the BSEE Program
After acceptance:
- The student will need to meet with an Academic Success Coach to discuss the MAP for upper division coursework.
- The Elementary Education Department will work with the student for Practicum and Student Teaching placement.
Completion of BSEE | Exit Interview | Institutional Recommendation
Upon completion of Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education (BSEE) and after the registrar completes the graduation audit, the CAC Elementary Education Department will invite the candidate to an exit interview.
The Education department will then submit an Institutional Recommendation with the Arizona Department of Education.
The Institutional Recommendation is required to apply for teacher certification with ADE.
