For students who have yet to navigate our online tutoring environment, please note the information below:

Two modes of tutoring are available online:

1) Live synchronous Tutoring with or without appointment Monday through Thursday from 8 AM to 7 PM. Friday and Saturday hours available by appointment, please check the schedule

  • Open Blackboard > enter the Combined Tutoring course > Click on Ultra Tutor Rooms (the very first button on the upper left).
  • If you already have an appointment, locate your tutor by  name [alphabetical list],  click on the tutor’s name to enter their room and start your session.
  • If you do not have an appointment, navigate to Start Here/ Talk to a Tutor to schedule an appointment.
  • Once you have an appointment,
    • Return to Blackboard (if necessary)
    • Locate your tutor by name
    • Click on that tutor to start your session

2) Asynchronous Online  is available 24/7 for writing, math and science. Responses should be back to you within 36 hours of submission.

  • Log into Blackboard, enter the Combined Tutoring course
  • Click the desired link [writing, math or science] on the left-hand column under “Online Tutoring and Resources.”
  • Papers from any course, in progress or completed, may be submitted to “Writing/Submit an Essay.” Directions are listed above “Submit an Essay.”
  • And questions may be asked of math and science tutors by clicking the subject link/Ask a Question.
    • Either type the question in the comment box
    • or upload a document
  • Responses appear where you submitted the question for feedback.

We will continue to loan laptops upon request until we have depleted our resource.

During stressful times as these, coupled with at-home isolation, domestic/family violence occurrences often increase. Members of the community should be aware of the following points:

The Title IX office remains open and functioning remotely at this time. Any behavior that is prohibited by policy is also likely prohibited online, including forms of cyber-harassment, cyber-bullying, and cyber-stalking. Members of the community are expected to maintain a tone of civility and respect in online classes just as they would if they were in class physically.

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) March 23 Update

Updated Information from CAC President, Dr. Jackie Elliott regarding CAC closures related to COVID-19.

The College campuses will be closed to the public with essential services moved to online, telephone, or virtual formats

Central Arizona College has been closely monitoring Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). To protect the continued health and safety of faculty, staff, students, and community, the College campuses will remain closed with a majority of services moved to online, telephone, or virtual interactions until further notice.

Central Arizona College has no confirmed cases, but Pinal County has seventeen (17) confirmed cases of COVID-19. However, our concern is, and always will be, the health and safety of our students, faculty and staff.

The College is eager to return to normal business as soon as the risk to those around us has been reduced to the levels that can be accommodated by the nation’s health care system. By taking these steps now, our goal is to resume our regular schedules for the fall semester.

Beginning, Wednesday, March 25, all instruction will take place online for the remainder of the semester. Students in programs requiring lab components will receive instructions from faculty teaching those courses on or before Wednesday, March 25, 2020.

Students who may need access to technology should monitor the College website for information about hours and access to services such as borrowing laptops.

Campus Services

Unless otherwise directed, the following services will be suspended or moved to an online, telephone or virtual format:

  • Food service, including catering and all Micro Markets, will be suspended.
  • Residence halls will remain open to those who must be on campus. Social distancing arrangements will be made. Modified food options will be provided to these students.
  • Students electing to move out of the residence halls will be provided with an opportunity to schedule a specific day/time with Residential Life staff. Scheduling will enable the College to assure social distancing during the process.
  • Access to the bookstores, library services and Learning Center assistance will be provide online, via telephone, or other virtual format. Please check the Colleges (College website or College’s website) website for details.

Events

All academic and student events scheduled through the end of the semester are canceled unless conducted in a fully virtual format. This includes club and organization (SGA, SAC, Phi Theta Kappa, etc.) meetings and events, as well as Student Academic Awards, nursing pinning, and graduation. The College is exploring options for conducting the Student Awards Ceremonies and graduation in a virtual format.

Student employment and financial aid

  • Student employees – your supervisor will reach out to you to discuss your employment.
  • The financial aid staff will be available to answer questions via telephone or email.

Campus Meetings

In alignment with CDC recommendations, all campus meetings and events exceeding ten (10) people are canceled or postponed unless conducted in a fully virtual format.

Employees

Employees are strongly encouraged to continue working from home, and should work with their direct supervisor for modified work schedules and arrangements.

Travel

All travel, in-state and out-of-state, is suspended until further notice.

All official College communication from the administration will be directed through the division of Public Relations. Important Update – Testing Center/Learning Center 

No testing will be conducted at our CAC Testing locations between 03/23/2020 – 03/26/2020. Testing that will be affected are Academic Testing, Pearson Vue Testing, CLEP, GED, among others.  In addition, all tutoring will be conducted via Blackboard online until further notice.  We will continue to update our schedule based on the latest information concerning COVID-19.

Reminder – CAC Students Have Access to 24/7 Telehealth Services

CAC students and up to four household dependents (spouse/kids) have access to 24/7 telemedicine and counseling/therapy with WellVia. Students can speak to a doctor over video chat or phone from the comfort of their own home, car, or residence hall, and get the acute medical attention necessary. A $35 fee applies per consult.

The College campuses will remain closed the week of March 23-27

Central Arizona College has been closely monitoring Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). We have provided several updates during the last several days regarding the situation, including actions taken by the College.

Please remember that most people who get COVID-19 have very mild or no symptoms and most recover on their own. Those at higher risk are older adults and people with chronic medical conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and lung disease.

Central Arizona College has no confirmed cases, but Pinal County has five confirmed cases (all from the same family) of COVID-19. However, our concern is and always will be the health and safety of our students, faculty and staff.

Spring break begins this week. And, to mitigate and slow the potential spread of the virus and to help protect the College community following spring break, the College will be closed the week of March 23-27 to allow for extended social distancing and to allow faculty additional time to migrate courses to an online format.

Courses will resume fully online beginning March 25, 2020

Beginning, Wednesday, March 25, all instruction, not already online, will resume as fully online courses for the remainder of the semester. Students in programs requiring lab components will receive instructions from faculty teaching those courses on or before Wednesday, March 25, 2020.

Students who may need access to technology should monitor the College website for information about hours and access to services such as borrowing laptops.

Students should direct questions to instructors, and faculty should direct questions to their Dean.

Students should not return to campus housing

Students who reside on campus are strongly encouraged to refrain from returning to campus given they have suitable alternative living arrangements. These student are welcome to return to campus briefly to collect belongings.

Students who live on campus who do not have a suitable alternative should return to campus. Residence halls and food service will be open to support students.

For students living in housing, residential life staff will communicate the process for collecting personal items and for returning after spring break.

Events

All events of 50 or more will be postponed or canceled. Event organizers will provide updates regarding new dates or cancellations.

Athletics

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has suspended all athletic competitions until April 6, 2020.

Employees

Hourly, part-time, and student employees should submit a time sheet for hours that would have been regularly worked during the week of March 23-27, 2020. Employees are not expected to take sick leave or vacation time for the closure. All employees will be compensated as normal.

It is understood that some employees may have essential functions that must be administered on campus during the week of March 23-27, and these employees are encouraged to work with their direct supervisor.

What You Need to Know March 12 Update

We are not closing campus at this time, but here’s what you need to know

Central Arizona College has been closely monitoring Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). We have provided several updates during the last several weeks regarding the situation, including actions taken by the college.

Please remember that most people who get COVID-19 have very mild or no symptoms and most recover on their own. Those at higher risk are older adults and people with chronic medical conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and lung disease.

Spring break begins next week. We feel it is necessary to prepare in the event we need to take additional steps to mitigate and slow the potential spread of the virus and to help protect the College community following spring break.

Students, take your books and computer with you when you leave for spring break

We will continue to assess whether we should temporarily move away from in-person delivery of classes and will provide an updated status no later than Thursday, March 19. This information will be sent via email and posted on the website and Facebook page.

A limited number of laptops are available for check out from the Learning Centers for students without access to technology.

Residence halls and all services will remain open.

Faculty should start planning alternative delivery methods

Faculty members who teach a face-to-face class should start planning how to continue instruction through alternate methods if the College decides to move away from in-person delivery of classes.

This may be through use of Blackboard, Zoom, email or other means of communication.  Academic leadership will be communicating with you to discuss available options.

Faculty and Staff

Until otherwise notified, faculty and staff should continue to report to work as usual after spring break.

Students, faculty and staff with underlying health conditions that put you at greater risk

We recognize that some members of campus may be at a higher risk of infection and may need special accommodations because they are immunocompromised. Individuals who have underlying health conditions that place them at heightened risk and wish to discuss possible accommodations should proceed as follows:

  • Students, please contact Accessibility Services.
  • Faculty, please work with your chair or dean.
  • Staff, please work with your immediate supervisor.

United States imposes additional travel restrictions from Europe

As many of you may know, President Trump announced last night that the United States is restricting travel from Europe. While there is still uncertainty about how this will be implemented, there is a possibility that any U.S. citizens who travel to Europe after Friday will be placed in a 14-day quarantine when they return.

Due to the continued spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the College is issuing a travel directive that applies to all faculty, staff and students.

Individuals who are arriving on campus or returning from any country designated by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as Level 2 or higher due to COVID-19 contagion risk, must:

  • Immediately contact Dean Tramaine Rausaw.
  • Comply with any and all precautionary protocols established by the College and/or the Pinal County Health Department prior to and upon returning to campus, which may include a 14-day quarantine.
  • Immediately contact the Pinal County Health Department to report the presentation of any COVID-19 symptoms.

Failure to comply with this campus-arrival directive increases the risk to campus and the surrounding community. As a result, any willful disregard or violation of this directive may be subject to sanction.

Spring Break Trips

Due to the additional travel restrictions, the College has cancelled all College sponsored spring break trips.

The CAC administration is closely monitoring the coronavirus or COVID-19 situation.  Our highest priority is the health, safety and well-being of our college community.  We are following the websites and notifications sent out by our public health partners such as the Pinal County Health Department and Center for Disease Control (CDC).  College leadership has developed a group to address communication, proactive measures and contingency planning.   Should you have any questions or recommendations the group consists of the following members:
