Pharmacy Technician

This Program prepares entry-level Pharmacy Technicians by emphasizing medical and pharmaceutical terminology, calculations, record keeping, pharmaceutical techniques, and law and ethics. Most core requirements are offered as an online option. Students will also receive hands on training in the Central Arizona College Pharmacy Technician lab and at various experiential training sites.

As the demand for healthcare services continues to rise, pharmacies are becoming more and more of an integral part of the healthcare system. As pharmacists are being called upon to fulfill an increased number of clinical duties that were traditionally carried out by physicians, Pharmacy Technicians are charged with carrying out additional assignments to assist the pharmacist in the daily operations of the pharmacy.

Licensing as a Certified Pharmacy Technician in the State of Arizona requires passing a national exam known as the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE). This is offered through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).

Employment of Pharmacy Technicians is projected to grow 9% from 2014-2024, faster than the average for all occupations. The AZ mean wage for Pharmacy Techs as of 2018 was $35,090.
