Beginning at 5 p.m., the Art Department will hold its annual Student Art Show in the lobby of the Pence Center. At 5:30 p.m., a red carpet event will feature opportunities for attendees to have their picture taken with a Hollywood star. The Culinary Arts department will be providing delicious hors d’oeuvres until the concert begins.
The 80 member Central Arizona Community Wind Ensemble will present music that has been nominated for or won an Oscar award for “Best Song” or “Best Original Score”. The program will include many Disney favorites such as “When You Wish upon a Star’”, “Chim Chim Cheree”, and “Under the Sea”. CAC student, Megan Ramos will portray Dorothy singing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”. Film scores from the pen of John Williams will be featured from “The Force Awakens” and “Schindler’s List”. Lou Bagley, Casa Grande community member, will be the featured flute soloist. Other selections will highlight the work of Henry Mancini and a medley of James Bond themes.
The Central Arizona Community Wind Ensemble is conducted by Professor Rick Moore and consists of Central Arizona College students, high school students, area community members and music educators.
The Santa Cruz Valley Union High School Band is a 25 member ensemble under the leadership of Mr. Joshua White. They will perform John Phillip Sousa’s “Washington Post March”, Elliot del Borgo’s beautiful rendition of “Adagio for Winds”, “Covington Square”, and will conclude with “The Wizard of Oz Meets the Wiz”.
