Dr. Sivasish Bisvas
Professor and English Department Chair
Assam University, Diphu Campus
2013/2014 Central Arizona College Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence
Central Arizona College has again been awarded a prestigious Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence Grant. This highly competitive award, which covers the academic year of 2013/2014, will allow CAC to host a visiting professor from India, who will study and teach for one year as part of the school's International Studies Program.
The invited scholar is Dr. Sivasish Bisvas, Professor and Chairperson, Department of English, Assam University, Diphu Campus, Assam, India. Professor Bisvas has extensive teaching experience in English language and literature and has published extensively in his field. His research interest involves the "unique features of less-known tribes or 'sub-nationalities' of India as represented in oral folk tales and myths. Such histories are, arguably, paralleled in the Native Americans as also the Aboriginals in Australia." During his stay he plans to extend his work with extensive study of the Native American cultures of Arizona.
As part of the Fulbright SIR Award, the CAC International Studies Program hopes to establish an ongoing teacher/student exchange program, just as it did with the school's last Fulbright SIR-Felippe Ramos who came here in 2010 from his home school of Universidad Federal de Bahia ion Brazil. The completion of an agreement with Assam University would give CAC international exchange programs in the three fastest growing global economies-China, Brazil, and India.
The following is Professor Bisvas' teaching schedule while he is at CAC:
