Central Arizona College Presents Reading of The Vagina Monologues
By Angela Askey, Executive Director Public Relations and Marketing
Central Arizona College will present a two night only benefit reading of Eve Ensler’s award winning play The Vagina Monologues on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. and on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 3 p.m. The reading will take place at the Don P. Pence Center for the Visual and Performing Arts (8470 N. Overfield Road, Coolidge, AZ 85128). Tickets are free with a suggested $5 donation at the door. All proceeds will be donated to Against Abuse.
This special benefit performance is presented this year as part of V-Day’s campaign ONE BILLION RISING: REVOLUTION, a global initiative that began three years ago as a call for women survivors of violence to rise and demand an end to violence.
A V-Day Campaign is a catalyst for mobilizing women and men to heighten awareness about violence against women and girls. By creating this global community, V-Day strives to empower women to find their collective voices and demand an end to violence that affects one in three women in the U.S. and around the world.
The New York Times calls the reading “funny” and “poignant” and the Daily News describes it as “intelligent” and “courageous.” The Vagina Monologues, which was first performed off-Broadway by Ms. Ensler, dives into the mystery, humor, pain, power, wisdom, outrage, and excitement buried in women’s experiences.
