CAC Students Receive Superstition Mountain and San Tan Campus Support Staff Scholarships
By Angela Askey, Executive Director Public Relations and Marketing
Support staff at Central Arizona College’s Superstition Mountain and San Tan Campuses recently awarded two scholarships to students completing certificate programs at these campuses.
The Medical Workforce Scholarship was established to assist students in covering licensing fees in the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certificate programs. These items are necessary for students to obtain employment in the field. To fund these scholarships, support staff collected used books and magazines from staff, students and community members and conducted a book sale.
The 2016 recipients of the Medical Workforce Scholarships are Jacqueline Whitrock and Edward Aguirre.
Whitrock is a resident of Apache Junction and attends classes at the Superstition Mountain Campus. She is a full time student and works part time for Banner Hospital as a food service worker. After receiving her license certification, Jacquie will begin her career as a CNA.
Aguirre attends classes and is a student employee at the Aravaipa Campus. He traveled to the San Tan Campus for the CNA class to complete his certificate requirements. Edward has been accepted to NAU and will complete a nursing degree by participating in the CAC to NAU concurrent enrollment program.
The support staff at these two campuses is planning to award scholarships to other deserving students in future years.
