Struttin’ with the CAC Jazz Ensemble
The Central Arizona College Jazz Ensemble will be “Struttin” on Thursday, November 19 at 7 p.m. in the Don P. Pence Center for the Performing and Visual Arts at the Signal Peak Campus (8470 N. Overfield Road, Coolidge, AZ). Tickets are free for this concert.
The 15 piece jazz ensemble will highlight their show with both classic big band music and contemporary jazz literature. Featured classic charts will include: Miles Davis’, “Tutu”, “Little Suede Shoes” by Charlie Parker, George and Ira Gershwin’s “Love Is Here to Stay”. There will also be some classic pop tunes including: Classic IV’s “Traces”; “Gimme Some Lovin” made popular in the 60’s by the Spencer Davis Group; and the ever popular “Theme from New York New York.”
The evening will feature many of the talented musicians including; Larry Marik (tenor sax – Casa Grande), Mario Escalante (tenor sax – Casa Grande Union High School), Mason White (trombone – Apache Junction High School), Walter Jacobson (trumpet – Casa Grande), Martin Nevarez (trumpet – Arizona City), and Hugo Sergovia (drum set – Casa Grande Union High School).
The CAC Jazz Ensemble rehearses twice a week. Their repertoire consists of standard and progressive jazz literature in the swing, Latin, and rock idioms. An emphasis is placed on learning and developing improvisational skills. The CAC Jazz Ensemble performs one concert on campus per semester, as well as, numerous gigs throughout the Casa Grande area. The ensemble is directed by Professor Rick Moore.
