By Angela Askey, Director of Marketing
Central Arizona College is pleased to announce a public-private partnership with Easter Seals Blake Foundation (ESBF) that will enable the childcare centers at the Signal Peak and Superstition Mountain campuses to be reopened.
Central Arizona College's Early Childhood Education program engages students in innovative and effective learning experiences that positively impact their lives as well as children, families, and the community.
Melissa Busby, Director of the CAC Early Childhood Education program states, “The Easter Seals Blake Foundation has a strong reputation for providing comprehensive family services and community training. Our partnership will be a tremendous benefit for both CAC and Pinal County.”
In addition to meeting a need for high quality child care, the mission of the childcare centers is to provide a high quality learning lab for CAC students from a number of appropriate disciplines. The centers will provide a needed service for the campuses and communities while allowing students to experience enriched, real world learning opportunities.
“Easter Seals Blake Foundation is extremely excited about the opportunity to expand the options for high quality child care in the communities of Apache Junction and Coolidge. Our children deserve the best early learning that we can provide and this partnership will be invaluable for supporting learning and professional growth for students,” stated Lela Messick, Associate Director for Children and Family Services.
It is estimated that as many as 100 students each semester will have the opportunity to participate in service learning opportunities in the centers. The learning labs will provide a range of observational and practical experiences for students from multiple programs of study.
“The Nursing Division is excited for the partnership with the on campus child care centers. These learning labs will be a place where nursing students can use knowledge gained in class to observe and assess children according to pediatric milestones. This hands on learning opportunity will allow nursing students to learn to communicate with children therapeutically and teach them the importance of life skills such as handwashing,” commented Tina Berry, CAC Nursing Director.
The childcare centers are now accepting enrollments for the fall and will serve children ages two and half years old to five years old. The fee based service will operate Monday through Friday.
Special open houses will be held at each Center. The Signal Peak Center will be open on Saturday, June 20, 2015 from noon until 3 p.m. and the Superstition Mountain Center will hold their open house on Saturday, June 27 from noon to 3 p.m.
