Central Arizona College is again offering a Piano Keyboard class and private lesson opportunities this fall. Students will learn notes, chords, scales, classics and blues music.
The Piano Keyboard class is designed for beginners and those hoping to brush up on their playing skills. Private piano lessons are offered weekly on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday mornings at 9 a.m., 10 a.m. or 11 a.m.
Classes will be held in the new Yamaha Clavinova Piano lab in the Don. P. Pence Center for the Visual and Performing Arts and are taught by Arlene Ratz, professor of music.
Ratz has a Master of Arts in Music from Eastern New Mexico University and a Master of Arts in Counseling with an emphasis on academic learning from Austin College.
Beginners and pianists returning to lessons will use the Piano Keyboard-Mastering Music Basics and Piano Keyboard – Skills, Concepts and Repertoire books written by Ratz. These can be purchased at the CAC Bookstore.
Ratz explains, “Classes are designed for individuals wanting to learn how to play piano and those looking to improve their skills. These books provide an introduction to notation, repertoire, technique, keyboard theory, harmonization, transposition, improvisation and musicology.”
