New Real Estate Certificate Beginning this Fall

By Angela Askey, Director of Marketing

With projected growth for the Sun Corridor area and improved economic conditions in the Arizona real estate market, the need for real estate professionals is on the increase.

Central Arizona College is responding to the need with the addition of a new Real Estate Certificate. Classes will begin being offered this fall with additional courses starting spring semester. Students can graduate with their Real Estate Certificate in fall 2015.

Courses being offered this fall include Real Estate Principles & Practices (REA122) and Intro to Contract Writing (REA124). REA122 is a six credit course that covers the basic principles of real estate. The course meets the requirement for licensure of real estate sales personnel. REA124 is one credit course on writing real estate contracts and is required for real estate license activation.

Beginning spring semester 2015, the course Residential Property Management (REA 283-298) will be added. This course will be offered via Instructional Television (ITV) at all five of CAC’s campuses. The course will provide an overview of landlord responsibilities, residential laws pertaining to property management, case studies, contracts, disclosures, and communication between landlords and tenants.

The courses in the new Real Estate Certificate are available for completion in one year.  They include the aforementioned real estate courses along with business communication, computer literacy, small business management, or law. An optional 45-90 hour internship is available and must be arranged at a real estate office under a licensed or unlicensed assistant. These certificate courses also stack into the Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) Degree in Business.

Gayle Haro, Business Department Chair stated, “With this new certificate, we are responding to the requests of our students, advisory committee members and industry partners.” She added, with the projected growth and demands in the housing and property industry, Pinal County citizens can benefit by participating in real estate education for career development or personal investment use.”
