“Swing, Swing, Swing – Old School”

The Central Arizona College Jazz Ensemble will conclude their spring concert schedule with “Swing, Swing, Swing – Old School” on Thursday, April 23 at 7 p.m. on the Central Arizona College Signal Peak campus. The concert will be held in the Don P. Pence Center for Visual and Performing Arts and is free. 

The Jazz Ensemble performance schedule has included successful events at the Palm Creek Golf and RV Resort, Paramount Theater and Arizona City Golf Course.

The 17 piece jazz ensemble will highlight their show with several jazz and Tin Pan Alley standards. This will include: Bye Bye Blackbird, Georgia on My Mind, Don’t Get Around Much Anymore, and ‘Round Midnight. There will also be a “Battle of the Tenors” between Mario Escalante and Larry Marik.

The concert will feature several band members. Walter Jacobson (trumpet), a community member and resident of Mission Royale will play Bye Bye Blackbird in the style of Miles Davis. Larry Marik (alto sax), a community member and resident of Palm Creek RV Resort will perform a beautiful and powerful rendition of Georgia on My Mind. Salvador Duenes (trumpet), CAC student from Daly City, California will give his version of the beautiful and interesting ‘Round Midnight.

Other featured band members will include: Audrey Petersen (alto sax – Casa Grande Union High School), Logan Blevins (tenor sax – Maricopa High School), Mason White (trombone – Apache Junction High School), Matt Gagley (trombone – Florence High School) and Miguel Espinoza (drum set – Santa Cruz Valley Union High School).
