This fall, Central Arizona College will offer a Piano class (MUP110) and private piano lessons (MUP109P) with Professor Arlene Ratz. Students will learn how to read music, "play by ear," and various folk, classic and blues songs.
Private Piano Lessons will begin on Monday, Aug. 17. Lessons are 50 minutes in length and students may earn one credit. Registration is limited to twelve students.
The Piano Class will begin Tuesday, Aug. 18 and meets on Tuesdays from 1:30-3:20 p.m. This two credit class is designed for up to eight beginners.
All Piano classes will be held in the Yamaha Clavinova Piano lab (P building, room 129) at the Don. P. Pence Center for the Visual and Performing Arts (8470 N. Overfield Rd., Coolidge, AZ.)
Professor Ratz has a Master of Arts in Music from Eastern New Mexico University and a Master of Arts in Counseling with an emphasis on academic learning from Austin College.
Beginners and pianists returning to lessons will use the Piano Keyboard-Mastering Music Basics and Piano Keyboard - Skills, Concepts and Repertoire books written by Ratz. These can be purchased at the CAC Bookstore. It is strongly recommended that students have their own piano or keyboard.
