Two CAC Students Named Coca-Cola Scholars
By Angela Askey, Executive Director Public Relations and Marketing
Two Central Arizona College students were recently named 2016 Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team scholars. Tigest Maru, a student at the San Tan Campus and Olivia Jaqua, who attends the Superstition Mountain Campus are both awarded Silver Scholar recognition.
The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation sponsors the Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team program by recognizing 50 Gold, 50 Silver and 50 Bronze Scholars, and providing nearly $200,000 in scholarships annually. Each Silver Scholar will receive a $1,250 scholarship and silver medallion.
This announcement comes on the heels of both Maru’s and Jaqua’s selection to the All-Arizona Academic First Team this past week.
Both nursing majors, Maru and Jaqua were selected for their outstanding academic rigor, grade point average, academic and leadership award accomplishments, and engagement in college and community service. Both plan to transfer to Northern Arizona University to further their education, with Maru seeking to become a Surgical First Assistant and Jaqua, a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.
Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society administers the Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Program and recognizes Coca-Cola Academic Team scholars during the Phi Theta Kappa Annual Convention slated for April 7 through 9 in National Harbor, MD.
