CAC Choral Program Seeking Talent

By Angela Askey, Director of Marketing

In preparation for another exciting semester, the Central Arizona College choral program is accepting new members to learn and perform at its Signal Peak Campus.

Current CAC students as well as members of the community who enjoy singing are invited to enhance their vocal chords and share their talents by joining the choral program.

“Being a member of a choral group is a great way for a person who enjoys singing to have an opportunity to both use and improve their skills,” says Dr. Kim Osteen-Petreshock, director of the choral program at CAC. “It's also a great way to meet other people who enjoy making music.”

The CAC College Choir performs a wide variety of music, including classical, popular, folk, contemporary and multicultural selections. Two separate sections of the College Choir course are being offered for the fall semester. The first section will meet from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The second section, also referred to as Community Choir, meets every Monday from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Auditions are not required for either section of the College Choir. While not mandatory, prior experience and music-reading ability is helpful. All choir classes have extended registration periods, so students will still be able to register throughout the beginning of the semester.

The CAC Jazz Choir, is a select group that focuses primarily on jazz music and some popular music. The group will meet Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from Noon to 1:15 p.m. A brief audition is required for acceptance into Jazz Choir; arrangements can be made by contacting Dr. Osteen-Petreshock.

All three choral groups will meet in Room 104 of the Pence Center at the Signal Peak Campus and begin rehearsing on Monday, August 18.

“All choirs participate in two major concerts per semester: one around the middle of the semester and one at the end,” said Dr. Osteen-Petreshock. “The performances are usually on campus. All relevant dates and times will be made available at the beginning of the semester.”

To register for one of these three vocal performance opportunities, contact an academic advisor. For more information about the CAC choral programs or to arrange an audition for the Jazz Choir, contact Dr. Osteen-Petreshock by phone at 520-560-5779 or by email at
