Written by: Angela Askey, Director of Marketing
Each year numerous east valley community donors are instrumental in providing the College for Kids summer program at Central Arizona College. This year, more than $17,000 has been donated to cover the cost of supplies and provide student scholarships for eastern Pinal County youth to attend the eight day program.
The 2015 donors include: SaddleBrooke Community Outreach; APS Grant; Winkelman Resource Management Center; SRP Grant/Community Outreach; Resolution Copper; SMITHCO Enterprises; Capstone/Pinto Valley Operations; United Methodist Church/Good Shepherd; ASARCO; San Manuel Rotary Club; William Stanbaugh; Delta Kappa Gamma Zeta Chapter; P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter AR; Copper Area News Publishers; Town of Winkelman; Town of Kearny; Town of Hayden; and Pinal County RICO Funds.
“We are very grateful for the tremendous amount of support from our community members.” stated Jamie Wolgast, College for Kids Program Coordinator. “Because of their financial assistance, our program has grown over the years and will continue to provide fun, summer learning experiences for our local kids.”
Desert Critters is the theme for the 2015 College for Kids hands-on summer program happening at the CAC Aravaipa Campus in July.
The program will be held Monday through Thursday, July 6-16 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Fifty children, exiting grades two through six, will have an opportunity to study the critters so often found in our local deserts. Students will participate in live animal demonstrations and a field trip to Oracle State Park.
The closing ceremonies for the camp will take place on Thursday, July 16 at 12:30 p.m. in the Cafeteria of the Aravaipa Campus (80440 E. Aravaipa Road, Winkelman, AZ 85192). Students will be presented with certificates and a slide show featuring the camp activities will be shown to the friends, family and community members in attendance. All projects created by the students during the program will be on display as well.
