PINAL COUNTY, Ariz. - Coolidge High School captured the overall team title at Central Arizona College's 38th annual high school math contest. En route to its team title, CHS won two of the three medals in the contest's Level II pairs competition.

The contest, held at CAC's Signal Peak Campus, pitted students from five Pinal County high schools against one another in a battle of mathematical wits. Vista Grande High School, which finished third in last year's contest, finished in second place. Apache Junction High School finished in third.

The students competed in pairs at distinct levels, with the first level featuring basic algebra, level two featuring algebra II and level three challenging students with advanced mathematics, including calculus.

Vista Grande's Jaqueline Jacobson and Giovanni Paladino took home first-place honors in the Level I competition. Coolidge's Jacob Beigel and Katherine Hoover topped the Level II competition while Mission Heights Prep's Olivia Reagan and Jake Rasmussen earned Level III gold.

Students who competed in the pairs competitions were also given a chance, individually, to earn gold in open competition. Apache Junction High School's Jordan Bell bested the field of students, giving AJHS the competition's individual winner for the second straight year.
