PINAL COUNTY, Ariz. – The Central Arizona College Choral & Handbell Concert will take place Thursday, May 9, at 7 p.m. in the Don P. Pence Center for Visual & Performing Arts.
The annual spring concert will feature the CAC Community, College, Jazz and Handbell choirs.
The choral portion of the program will feature a variety of selections, including jazz, pop, classical, contemporary and multicultural music. Also featured will be CAC’s Outstanding Choral Student of the Year Aeisha Lankster, as well as Anthony Felix, who recently earned Outstanding Vocal Performance honors at the Reno Jazz Festival. The CAC Jazz Choir received an “excellent” rating at that festival.
Selections played by the Handbell Choir include Towers by Cathy Moklebust, an original composition based on a basic change ringing pattern called "plain hunt."
“Change ringing,” Diane Rubio, the handbell choir’s director, explained “is the art of ringing a set of tuned bells in a series of mathematical patterns called changes. It differs from many other forms of ringing in that no attempt is made to produce a conventional melody.”
Also included in the handbell selection are:
- Groove in G by Greg Underwood
- MIST by Chip Davis, transcribed by John Q. Adams, video by Dennis Freyermuth and Sunburst Video, based on the poem I Am A Raindrop by Bob Fries
- Cole Porter Gold by Cole Porter, arranged by Doug Wagner
- Night and Day
- Begin the Beguine
- Just One of Those Things
- Anything Goes
