PINAL COUNTY, Ariz. - The theatre department at Central Arizona College announces auditions for its fall musical, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.
Auditions are open to CAC students and members of the community and will be held Tuesday, Aug. 27, at 6:30 p.m. in the Don P. Pence for Visual & Performing Arts with callbacks set for Aug. 28 at 6:30 p.m.
Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script and a song taught at the audition by the show's music director. Rehearsals will begin Aug. 29 and will run from 4-7 p.m., Monday-Thursday. During the last two weeks of production, rehearsals will shift to 6-9 p.m. Performances are scheduled for Thursday and Friday, Oct. 24 and 25 at 7 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 26 at 3 p.m.
The show revolves around six young people in the throes of puberty who, while overseen by grown-ups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves, learn that winning isn't everything and that losing doesn't necessarily make you a loser.
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a hilarious tale of overachievers' angst chronicling the experience of six adolescent outsiders vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime.
The show's Tony Award-winning creative team has created the unlikeliest of hit musicals about the unlikeliest of heroes: a quirky yet charming cast of outsiders for whom a spelling bee is the one place where they can stand out and fit in at the same time.
