Danny Lopez, Bridget Pettis, Kurt Van Hazel bound for Vaquero Hall of Fame Jan. 8 in Casa Grande
CASA GRANDE, Ariz. – Two former Central Arizona College student-athletes and a longtime CAC head coach will be inducted into the Vaquero Hall of Fame on Jan. 8, 2011, at the Paramount Theatre in downtown Casa Grande, Ariz.
Danny Lopez, Bridget Pettis and Kurt Van Hazel will be enshrined during the third annual ceremony that will begin at 6:30 p.m. The formal induction ceremony will be preceded by an on-campus presentation that will take place at halftime of the men’s basketball game that day. The Vaqueros will host Phoenix College for a 4 p.m. tip-off.

A cross country runner at Central Arizona College, Lopez earned All-American honors, was a PAC-10 Champion, and competed as a U.S. Olympic athlete.
Pettis roamed the court for the Vaquera basketball team, earning NJCAA Division I All-American honors during her CAC career. She also spent nine years as a player in the WNBA and currently serves as an assistant coach with the Phoenix Mercury.
Kurt Van Hazel was the longtime head track & field coach at Central Arizona College where he won 20 consecutive NJCAA Region I titles and the 1996 NJCAA Division I National Championship.
The Vaquero Honor Award also will be presented during the induction ceremony to Tim Edwards and Al Van Hazel.
Edwards served as an HPER coach and administrator and was instrumental in athletic and academic excellence at CAC. Van Hazel was a strong Vaquero Foundation supporter and assistant coach who helped coordinate the annual Vaquero Fall Raffle.
