Registration now underway for the 2009 Vaquero All-Sport Summer Camp June 1-5 at Signal Peak
January 26, 2009
PINAL COUNTY, Ariz. – Central Arizona College now is registering boys and girls for the 2009 Vaquero All-Sport Summer Camp to be held June 1-5 on the Signal Peak Campus.
The weeklong camp will introduce children ages 9-14 to a variety of team sports by emphasizing fundamentals, sportsmanship and fun. The camp will run from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
“The philosophy of the camp is to offer a well-rounded experience in a safe and family-oriented environment in several sports instead of specializing in a single program,” Jeff Thies, Central Arizona College’s athletic director, said. “The camp also creates an opportunity for children to spend time on a college campus.”
The boys’ camp schedule will include football, baseball and basketball, while the girls’ camp schedule will feature volleyball, basketball and softball. All campers will participate in two speed and strength sessions per day and a final session of either recreational swimming or indoor gym games.
Children must turn nine by June 1, 2009, to be eligible to participate in the camp. The cost of the camp is $275 for the week and includes lunch each day. Participants registering by May 1, 2009, will receive a special camp discount price of $250.
Campers are responsible for bringing their own snacks and drinks; however, the snack bar will be open for the purchase of these items.
The all-sport camp will be held at Central Arizona College’s Signal Peak campus located between the cities of Coolidge and Casa Grande and easily accessible from the San Tan, Florence, Eloy, Arizona City, Coolidge, Casa Grande and surrounding areas.
Camp programs will be held in the George Young Activity Center - a facility complete with a 1000-seat field house, locker rooms and fitness center – as well as at outdoor athletic facilities located around the campus. These facilities included a heated Olympic-sized pool, softball park, track and field facility, and baseball stadium with Major League dimensions.
Lockers are available for campers to use but participants must bring their own locks. Campers should bring sunscreen, swimsuits and a change of clothes.
The Signal Peak Campus is home to the Vaqueros and Vaqueras, Central Arizona College’s nationally-acclaimed NJCAA Division I athletic programs. CAC has won 34 National Championships since the mid-1970s, including 12 titles in softball, three in women’s basketball, two in baseball and one in volleyball. Members of the Central Arizona College coaching staff will conduct the summer camp program.
