February 26, 2009
MARICOPA, Ariz. – Many small business owners become engulfed in the excitement of a successful commercial enterprise when goods are zooming off shelves and demand for service seems boundless.
But keeping an accounting of all financial transactions can be daunting – and vital.
Enter Central Arizona College’s Maricopa Center and the Maricopa Chamber of Commerce.
The partnership has produced a four-week, no-cost course entitled QuickBooks available to anyone with an existing business in Maricopa or for anyone who is planning to do business in the city.
The class will be held from 2-6 p.m. on four consecutive Saturdays beginning March 7 and concluding on March 28. Even though CAC is closed for spring break March 16-20, this course will continue to meet.
All classes are scheduled for the Maricopa Center and will be taught by Central Arizona College certified instructors. The Maricopa Center is located at 20800 N. John Wayne Parkway, Suite 104 in The Shops at Maricopa Fiesta.
The QuickBooks class provides a practical application of accounting utilizing QuickBooks Pro. Topics covered will include the general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, job costing and payroll.
Understanding the financial side of a small business is paramount, according to Jim Rhodes, Central Arizona College’s director of the Small Business Development Center.
“To remain in business, especially in today’s economic climate, it is vital for small business owners to keep excellent records,” Rhodes emphasized. “Bad record keeping can quickly undermine even a profitable business and create all sorts of problems with creditors and the IRS.”
