April 8, 2009

PINAL COUNTY, Ariz. – The deadline for this year’s Pinal County eighth-grade students to enroll in Central Arizona College’s Promise for the Future Scholarship program is May 29, 2009.

Students, along with their parents and/or guardians, must jointly sign the Contract of Commitment and return the document to Central Arizona College or their middle school guidance office by the deadline.

The Promise for the Future Scholarship Program is a joint effort of Central Arizona College, the Central Arizona College Foundation, and the public schools throughout Pinal County. Its purpose is to address the school dropout rate in the county and increase access to higher education.

Students enrolled in the eighth grade in a Pinal County middle school have the opportunity to sign a Promise for the Future Contract of Commitment. This information is distributed through Pinal County middle schools each spring.

Students will be eligible to submit the formal application for the scholarship during the spring of their senior year in high school.

Recipients may receive the award of up to four semesters of in-state tuition for study at any of CAC’s nine campuses or centers. Students must graduate from a Pinal County high school with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 and then enroll in a minimum of 12 credits per semester.

While at Central Arizona College, students must maintain a 2.50 GPA, be continuously enrolled at the college, and complete a minimum of nine credits each semester.

The Promise for the Future Scholarship program was launched in May 2001. Through 2008, more than 7,000 Pinal County students have enrolled in the program.

During the 2008-09 academic year, 106 of 361 eligible students entered Central Arizona College for their first year of college.
