The CAC Jazz Ensemble meets on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 2-3:20 pm. Its repertoire consists of standard and progressive jazz literature in the swing, Latin and rock idioms with an emphasis placed on learning and developing improvisational skills.

The CAC Jazz Ensemble performs one concert on campus per semester as part of the Central Arizona College Entertainment Series, as well as numerous gigs throughout Pinal County for its communities and schools.

Most of the band members are non-music majors who receive academic scholarships for performing in the group.

In addition to the Evening of Jazz, the CAC Jazz Ensemble performed for the Arizona Multiple Sclerosis Bike-A-Thon and also will appear at the Casa Grande Union High School Jazz Night and the Tucson Jazz Festival.

Now in his seventh year as the director of instrumental music, Moore serves as the director of the band and is a professor of music.

His duties include conducting the Community Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble, providing all brass and percussion private lessons, and teaching classes in music appreciation and jazz/popular music appreciation.

In addition to his college duties, Moore serves as the musical director for the Big Band Memories of Tucson and performs on the trumpet and saxophone with his own groups. He performs with the Sonoran Jazz Ensemble, Rick Moore and His Horns, and the Phoenix-based Seniors Unlimited.

Moore is in demand as a clinician and guest conductor in Pinal County, the Greater Phoenix Area, and in many regions in Arizona.

The CAC Jazz Ensemble assembled by Moore includes seven current or former Casa Grande Union High School students, community members from Coolidge and Arizona City, and participants from Santa Cruz Valley Union and Maricopa high schools.
