APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. – An innovator of online teaching who is known for teaching the teacher’s how to teach, Central Arizona College’s Janie Sullivan is now having her expertise downloaded from cyberspace into a real live meeting room.
Sullivan has been appointed as a member of the school board for the Excalibur Charter School District in Apache Junction.
“I am really grateful for this opportunity because it gives me a chance to give back to the community,” Sullivan said. “Anytime you have the chance to help children, especially kids in the community you call home, you have to take it.”
Sullivan says her family members have chalk dust in their veins.
The native of Billings, Mont., has a father and a brother who both retired from education. Her father taught industrial arts in Montana for years, while her oldest brother was a sixth-grade teacher in her home state before moving to Idaho where he became an assistant public school superintendent.
Sullivan has served as Central’s faculty development specialist since June of 2006 and has been at Central Arizona College since September of 2001 in a number of different roles, including instructional designer, trainer; academic project specialist; and consultant/faculty adjunct.
She previously has worked for Apollo Group (Axia College), University of Phoenix, and Lamson Junior College in Tempe.
A 1987 graduate of the University of Montana School of Journalism, Sullivan completed her M.B.A. in 1991 and her M.A. Ed in 1998 at the University of Phoenix.
