Eastern Pinal County community celebrates student success at Aravaipa Campus Awards presentation
WINKELMAN, Ariz – Former Pinal County School Superintendent Dr. Jack Harmon has been chosen as the commencement speaker for Central Arizona College’s Aravaipa Campus graduation ceremony on Friday, May 9, in Winkelman, Ariz.
The outdoor event will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Central’s eastern Pinal County campus which is located just off state route 77 between Oracle Junction and Winkelman.
Harmon has served as an elementary school teacher, as well as a junior and senior high school instructor, and was the Oracle School District superintendent for 17 years. He also has served as a school principal and was elected to four terms as the Pinal County School Superintendent before recently retiring.
In 1994, Harmon was awarded the Outstanding Educator of the Year by the University of Arizona’s College of Education Alumni Council. He is an inductee of the Arizona Small and Rural School Association Hall of Fame, and in 2002 received the Arizona School Administrators Association’s prestigious Ray Sterling Kellis Award for Leadership and Integrity.
In 2005, he was honored by the J.O. Combs School District in Queen Creek when the school board named its new school the Jack W. Harmon Elementary School.
Harmon has earned three degrees from the University of Arizona – a bachelor’s degree in education, master’s degree in education, and an education specialist in administration.
He also has received his doctorate in education from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
An integral part of the fabric of Pinal County, Harmon has been a resident for more than 40 years.
